The blood vessels leak blood in the eyes, causing the retinal tissue to swell, making vision cloudy or blurry. In addition, long periods of high blood sugar change the curvature of the lens, affecting vision. However, the lens can regain shape when blood sugar levels become regulated, and the vision often improves.
