Stephen M. Tate, MD, joined New Vision Eye Center at its founding in 2009. He serves as the director of New Vision’s cataract service and medical director of New Vision’s state of the art surgery center. As a board certified ophthalmic surgeon, Dr. Tate is an expert in cataract and lens implant surgery.

Following his graduation with honors from Hampden-Sydney College, Dr. Tate received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 2003 where he received honors in every one of his clinical clerkships. After completing an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, where he received the prestigious Power of One Award for Patient Satisfaction, he returned to the West Virginia University Eye Institute to complete his training in ophthalmology, where he excelled at intraocular surgery.

In addition to treating his current patients, Dr. Tate has been involved in multiple clinical research trials and regularly donates his time to local charities providing sight-restoring surgery to those in need.

Dr. Tate is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Indian River County Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Florida Medical Association. He is also a volunteer professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine

Dr. Tate is an avid fisherman but most enjoys spending time with his family.
