VERO BEACH — New Vision Eye Center is known for its consistent use of cutting edge technology.
Recently, they added the ALLEGRETTO WAVE ™ to their sophisticated practice. The Allegretto Wave ™ Eye-Q is the most advanced FDA-approved LASIK surgical system in the United States and the only system of its type from Orlando to West Palm Beach. The new system has revolutionized LASIK surgery with treatment times of only 2 to 20 seconds, resulting in more comfort for the patient, reduced healing time and more standardized results.
David J. O’Brien, M.D. served as an FDA study investigator for the new system and said the Eye-Q was in development for 15 years and utilizes missile tracking technology.
“It is very safe because of the advanced tracking and rapid treatment,” said O’Brien. (LASIK surgery using older technology takes up to one and half minutes per eye, instead of the 2 – 20 seconds with the Eye-Q). “When you have such a short treatment time, there is much less variability in visual outcomes.”
After using this advanced laser platform for a year, O’Brien has found that his enhancement rate has been less than 1 percent. “I have never, in 15 years of performing laser vision correction, seen better or more predictable visual results,” O’Brien said.
The net result is that more patients are able to have this exciting, life changing procedure done and enjoy freedom from corrective lenses. O’Brien, who heads up the Allegretto Wave ™ team, is fellowship trained and the only corneal disease and refractive surgeon in Indian River County. He specializes in refractive surgery and also offers general ophthalmic care, treatment of glaucoma, eyelid surgery and aesthetics.
New Vision Eye Center now has the only Allegretto Wave ™ on the Treasure Coast and more than half of nearsighted patients achieved better than 20/20 vision, in the original FDA clinical trial of which O’Brien was an investigator.
